Dis-Oriental Series
2017
Performance, Photography
Dis-Oriental is part of a performance and photography collaboration between artists Naomi Even-Aberle and Skott Chandler of Rapid City, South Dakota. Dis-Oriental documents the duration aspects of a martial arts practice and then compresses 15 minutes of training into one single visual image. By combining the movements into layered still images, the artistic duo is able to divorce the martial arts from the Orientalized aspects of the practice and present a third space for viewing the durational action.
